Here's a 50-year flashback to Homecoming 1973: "Linda Clapp, 1973 Homecoming Queen, was presented during the halftime ceremonies of the El Campo-Calhoun game. She was escorted by Rick Rod and crowned by Student Body President Randy Muns. The cheerleaders presented her with a rose and a necklace.
Homecoming Princesses were Renee Kaiser, escorted by Lawrence Roye; Dorothy Phoenix, escorted by Harold Anderson; and Cynthia Rod, escorted by Hugh Hoffman.

Ricebird football players are spending one period on Thursdays with Mrs. Wenglar and Mrs. Hlavaty’s classes. Today they made paper footballs and goalposts. They played football to get the ‘Birds fired up for Friday night!

Learning with Play-Doh! Mrs. Kacer's Medical Terminology class performed surgery on their "potato" to practice directional terms.

Ms. Weathers' class at Hutchins is studying the weather and today they wrote in "clouds" (shaving cream). The kids loved to feel the "clouds" in their hands.
Mrs. Ener’s class read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123 this week and put the letters of the alphabet and numbers on the coconut tree. They explored letters and numbers and then put together their name to make a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom hat.

A note from Counselor Mrs. Smith: The deadline to sign up for the PSAT is Wednesday, September 13, 2023. This is a hard deadline so orders can be finalized. Sign up in the Counseling office. Payment of $18 is due when you sign up. You will need to have your Chromebook charged for the test.
Test Date & Times:
10th Grade AVID - Tuesday, October 24, 2023. All 10th grade AVID students will test as a group.
10th Graders (non AVID) - Wednesday, October 25, 2023. All who sign up through the counseling office will test in the Science Lecture Hall.
11th Graders - Thursday, October 26, 2023. All who sign up through the counseling office will test in the Science Lecture Hall.
