Over 100 Ricebird students got a hands-on look at their futures by touring Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Rosenberg. Students explored 14 exciting programs, such as electrical linework, robotics, welding, and diesel mechanics, to name a few. They also learned about financial aid, admissions, and the many opportunities available to make college affordable and achievable. It was an inspiring day filled with curiosity, innovation, and big dreams for what’s ahead!

Update on High School and Hutchins
Parents of high school: The district appreciates your cooperation, as the administration and staff have worked to keep your students safe with minimal interruptions to the high school activities. The situation on Roberts Street is being contained, and law enforcement is confident the high school can resume normal activities while remaining vigilant to the law enforcement situation three blocks to the south of the high school. A modification to the high school schedule is in order due to the law enforcement situation. The upper class switched their lunch times with the 9th grade and will have their lunch beginning at 12:45 rather than the normal 11:15. Once lunch is completed, high school students will continue with the 7th and 8th periods. A normal dismissal will follow. Thank you for your cooperation!

Parents of Hutchins: Avenue I continues to be barricaded while law enforcement works to resolve the situation on Roberts. Access to the Hutchins campus is still restricted. Local law enforcement has assured us that a typical parent pickup will occur this afternoon. Law enforcement is hopeful that the situation will be resolved prior to parent pickup, but in the event the situation continues, law enforcement will open Avenue I and utilize law enforcement to help parents retrieve their children.

El Campo ISD continues to cooperate closely with the El Campo Police Department. All students remain safe and secure on our campuses. As shared earlier, federal and local law enforcement currently have an individual barricaded inside a home on Roberts Street. Law enforcement has barricaded streets as a safe zone around the location. Because of the proximity to Hutchins Elementary and the high school, we are keeping students inside the buildings out of an abundance of caution. Our campuses continue to operate under a Lockout.

To continue providing meals safely, El Campo High School will temporarily flip our lunch schedule today:

9th grade will take the earlier lunch period.
Upper-class students will take the later lunch period at a time to be determined.
Additionally, all students will remain inside the high school buildings during the first lunch period. No students will be permitted in the courtyard.

We will update how we will conduct the lunch period for the upper classman at a later time.

This adjustment allows us to manage student movement safely while minimizing traffic in open areas during the Lockout.

We will share additional updates as they are provided by local law enforcement. Again, we want to reassure you that there is a significant police presence on Roberts Street, the situation is contained, and our Lockout procedures are an added layer of protection for our students.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

El Campo High school
We appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this morning's situation involving local and federal law enforcement in the neighborhood near Hutchins Elementary. Both the high school and Hutchins have returned to a normalized routine, with the knowledge to remain vigilant about the situation on Roberts. We have spoken with law enforcement, and they have the situation contained to a home. We are confident in our police department, and I have confidence in our district and campus administration and our entire staff, who are working diligently and successfully to keep your children safe and secure.

El Campo ISD is cooperating with the El Campo Police Department, and at this time, all students are safe and secure on our campuses. It is our understanding that federal law enforcement, with the cooperation of local law enforcement, has an individual barricaded within a home on Roberts Street. Because of the proximity to Hutchins Elementary and the high school, and out of an abundance of caution, we are keeping the students contained in the building. The high school students and the parents attending the pep rally are safely contained within the gymnasium. The schools remain on Lockout at this time.

We will provide updates as they become available from local law enforcement. I want to reiterate that there is a significant police presence on Robert’s Street and the situation is contained. El Campo ISD’s response is adding a layer of safety for our students.
