3. Walt Disney was dyslexic - Disney was diagnosed with dyslexia, which didn’t stop him from creating his massive empire.
4. The right side of the brain - Dyslexics use the right side of the brain more for processing information.
5. The left-right conundrum - Dyslexics don’t ‘see’ words backward, it’s the deficits caused by the interpretation of left and right.

The ECHS AVID students have been working to create our AVID Family. They worked in groups painting pumpkins to express their view of the family atmosphere we have created in our AVID classes. The students in Mrs. Jensen's Pre - K class have turned their dramatic play and construction centers into a pumpkin patch. They started last week with background building, reading about a pumpkin patch and then talking about what they can see, hear, play, do and eat! Then the prop building began! Students helped make the hot drink machine, popcorn machine and popcorn, caramel apples, cookies, pumpkins, dirt, hay bales, and they glued leaves on the apple trees. Soon they will be painting a Corn maze.
This week they were finally able to play in the centers. We are incorporating math, literacy, and fine motor with our play. The students took on the roles of farmer, customer, and snack shop worker.

Mrs. Bowling’s 7th grade AVID students toured the University of Houston Victoria campus. Students got to see classrooms, lecture halls, robotics labs, the student center and library, and two of the campus dorms. They also got to eat in Jaguar Dining Hall to get the full University experience. A big thank you to UHV for helping get our students excited about higher education.

Mrs. Dorris and Mrs. Grudzieski's classes at Northside Elementary had Mr. Dimmick come and present to the students about artifacts that he has dug up himself (he does archeology on the side).
The students had studied the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto in reading and he brought many artifacts that he had discovered from the Mexican armies and their various campgrounds. Some of the things they had lost along the way. Some of the artifacts were from close local places like Spanish Camp and East Bernard.
Examples of artifacts: 6 pound cannon ball, bullets from the muskets, heart guards, buttons from Mexican soldiers uniforms, wagon nail, sight from a musket, musket barrel, shoulder strap of the musket, coins, and shards of shrapnel.
