Trunk or Treat

🎃 Trunk or Treat: An Incredible Night of Ricebird Community Pride!
What an AMAZING night at Hutchins Elementary's Trunk or Treat! Over 1,500 students, families, and community members came through our event, making it a night to remember!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Hutchins families and community donors, we passed out over 750 pounds of candy! Huge thanks to Ryan Services, El Campo Rotary Club, and VonDerAu Ford for donating candy.
We were also excited to have Whataburger join us and pass out over 1,000 coupons! We appreciate the El Campo Police Department, El Campo EMS, and First Methodist Church for coming out and being part of the fun.
At Hutchins, our goal is to do as much as we possibly can to create memorable experiences and opportunities for our students and community. Nights like this remind us that it truly takes a village. This event would not have been possible without our AMAZING teachers and staff who worked so hard, our generous donors, our families, and the wonderful El Campo community that continues to show up for our Ricebirds.
Thank you for making Hutchins such a special place to be!

House of Determination won our candy competition and will receive their popsicles next week during lunch.

Trim-A-Tree Contest & Food Drive

4th Annual Trim-A-Tree Contest & Food Drive!
Hutchins Elementary is excited to participate in the 4th Annual Trim-A-Tree Contest & Food Drive, benefiting the Blessing Cup!
From November 2nd through December 4th, we will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to help families in need throughout our community.
To make things even more exciting, this will be a HOUSE COMPETITION! We are challenging all of our Houses to come together and see who can collect the most items!
Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. Let's show our Ricebird PRIDE by giving back, helping our neighbors, and spreading kindness this holiday season!
Which House will rise to the challenge and collect the most? Let the competition begin!

BRAINS IN ACTION

Brains in Action: Give Your Brain a Break
This week, remind your child that taking short breaks can actually help the brain learn better. When working on homework, reading, or completing a challenging task, encourage them to pause, stretch, move around, and then return to what they were doing.
Why it matters
The brain needs time to process and organize new information. Short movement breaks can improve attention, reduce mental fatigue, and help children return to learning with greater focus. Giving the brain a chance to reset can make learning more productive.
Tip
Try the 20-minute challenge at home. After about 20 minutes of focused work, take a short 2-3 minute movement break. Dance, stretch, walk around, or do a few jumping jacks. A little movement can go a long way in helping young brains stay focused and ready to learn!

PARENT ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK

Parent Engagement Tip: Celebrate Our School Community
This week, take an opportunity to talk with your child about the people and activities that make Hutchins Elementary special. From classroom celebrations and House activities to campus events and school traditions, families can stay connected to our school community in many ways.
Why it matters
When families take an interest in school activities, children develop a stronger sense of belonging and pride in their school. Family involvement strengthens the relationship between home and school and reminds students they have a community cheering them on.
Tip
Ask your child about their favorite school activity, House event, or upcoming campus celebration. Check ParentSquare and our weekly newsletter for opportunities to participate. Your involvement, whether big or small, helps make Hutchins Elementary a special place for our Ricebirds!

CAPTURING KIDS HEARTS TIP OF THE WEEK

CKH Tip: Be Intentional with Your Words
This week, encourage your child to think about how their words affect the people around them. Words can encourage, build confidence, and strengthen relationships, but they can also hurt feelings. Help children understand the importance of choosing words that show kindness and respect.
Why it matters
Capturing Kids' Hearts emphasizes creating meaningful connections and building a culture where everyone feels valued. When children learn to communicate positively, they build stronger relationships, improve conflict-resolution skills, and contribute to a more welcoming environment at school and at home.
Tip
Practice turning negative comments into positive ones. Instead of saying, "I can't do this," encourage your child to say, "I'm still learning." Instead of criticizing someone, help them find something encouraging to say. Remind your child that before speaking, they should ask themselves: "Are my words helpful, respectful, and kind?"
