HUTCHINS RICEBIRD REPORT

September 25, 2026

Attendance Matters

Every day in the classroom builds on the day before. As our students continue learning through the Bluebonnet curriculum, consistent attendance is one of the biggest factors in academic success. Missing even a few days can make it harder for students to keep up with new concepts and classroom routines.
How families can help:
  • Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible.
  • Arrive on time each morning.
  • Encourage a consistent bedtime routine.
  • Communicate with your child's teacher if challenges arise.
When students are here, engaged, and learning every day, they have the best opportunity to grow academically and socially.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Stay Connected Through Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on October 9th, and our teachers will begin reaching out soon to schedule meeting times with families. These conferences provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's academic progress, celebrate successes, review goals, and work together to support continued growth throughout the school year.
The partnership between home and school plays an important role in student success. We encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with their child's teacher and stay informed about their learning journey.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Together, we can help every student achieve their full potential.

BRAINS IN ACTION

Brains in Action: Make Connections
This week, encourage your child to connect new learning to something they already know. When reading a story, learning a new math skill, or discussing a topic, ask questions such as, “What does this remind you of?” or “How is this similar to something you've learned before?”
Why it matters
The brain learns best when it can connect new information to existing knowledge. Making connections helps children better understand concepts, retain information longer, and apply their learning in different situations. Strong connections lead to deeper understanding and improved academic success.
Tip
Look for opportunities to connect school learning to everyday life. If your child is learning about measurement, have them help measure ingredients while cooking. If they are reading about communities, talk about the people and places that make your community special. These real-world connections help learning become meaningful and memorable.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK

Parent Engagement Tip: Attend School Events
This week, look for opportunities to participate in school events and activities. Whether it's Grandparents Day, a PTO event, a family night, a performance, or a campus celebration, your presence sends a powerful message that school is important.
Why it matters
When children see their families involved in school, they feel supported, encouraged, and proud. Family participation helps strengthen the connection between home and school while creating positive memories that students will carry with them for years to come.
Tip
Take a few minutes at the beginning of each week to review school communications and upcoming events. Adding important dates to your calendar can help ensure your family stays connected to all the great things happening at Hutchins Elementary.

CAPTURING KIDS HEARTS TIP OF THE WEEK

CKH Tip: Notice Acts of Kindness
This week, encourage your child to look for acts of kindness in the people around them. Whether it's a classmate sharing supplies, a sibling helping with a chore, or a teacher offering encouragement, taking time to notice kindness helps children develop a more positive and caring outlook.
Why it matters
Capturing Kids' Hearts emphasizes building strong relationships through respect, care, and connection. When children recognize the kindness of others, they become more likely to show kindness themselves. This helps create a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and included.
Tip
At dinner or before bedtime, ask your child, “What is one act of kindness you noticed today?” Then share one of your own. Making kindness a regular topic of conversation helps children become more aware of the positive impact they can have on others.
