Northside and Hutchins Elementary Schools competed in Academic UIL events December 4-11, on their campuses and at Louise Elementary. El Campo students competed against students from Ganado, Louise, and Wharton.
Students volunteer to try out for the various teams to represent their school. Most contests have three contestants and one alternate. The students who make the team commit to practice for two months to prepare for the competition.
At their home campuses, students took the tests for Art Smart, Chess Puzzles, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Listening, Map Reading, Music Memory, Number Sense, Ready Writing, Social Studies, and Spelling. These tests were then taken to Louise Elementary where they were compared with results from the other participating schools and ranked to determine a winner.
Oral Reading and Storytelling are speaking events, so the students traveled to Louise Elementary to perform in front of judges.
