Health Services

El Campo ISD maintains a nurse at each campus. The nurse is responsible for helping students with their health issues, medications, emergencies, and tracking the student body's immunization status.

Immunizations:

The Texas Administrative Code requires that “every child in the state shall be immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases caused by infectious agents.” (TAC RULE §97.63) A list of required vaccinations is available from our school nurse. If a student fails to comply they will NOT be allowed to attend school (TAC RULE §97.66).  It is your responsibility to be sure the school has your current address and phone number on file. For more details click the "Immunization Requirement" link.

If your child is sick:

Children must be free of fever (less than 100.0 degrees) for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Advil / Motrin) before returning to school. Children must be free of diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school and need to be eating and drinking without any problem. If a child vomits two or more times within 24 hours, they will need to stay home for at least 24 hours to ensure they are not contagious.

Please call the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as COVID-19, Flu, TB, Measles, Mumps, Chickenpox, Hepatitis, and Meningitis.

Medication:

Nurses and Teachers are not allowed to administer medications of any kind at school without proper consent. Children are not permitted to carry medication including cough drops. ALL MEDICATION must be administered from the clinic. Parents must deliver the medication to the clinic and bring only the necessary amount for school. ALL medication must be in the original container. All prescription medication must be in the original pharmacy container with the child’s name, medication date, and dosing instructions. A second bottle from the pharmacy can be requested from the pharmacy by the parent for the school clinic. "All morning medications" should be given at home as well as antibiotics for 3 times a day or every 8 hours. Just follow a before breakfast, after school, and before bedtime schedule. *There are no "stock medications" in the clinic such as Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, etc.

Care Plans:

Parents/Guardians if your child has any of the following health conditions; Diabetes, Asthma, Seizures, Food Allergies/Anaphylaxis, we must have a Care Plan filled out by the child’s physician. The Care Plan will be individualized and assist the school nurse in caring for your child with their health condition, should the need arise at school.  The Care Plan needs to be turned in to your school nurse before the start of each school year, or within the first week of starting school. The blank Care Plan forms can be found listed to the right. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school nurse.
